Primavera Risk Analysis – Monte Carlo Method

You need to explain why it should be used, what the diagram tells you that is important to know about your project and what can’t be known without a risk analysis. Discuss the risk register, its use and add a screen capture.

Every activity that we do is subject to unsuspected events some of these upsetting events are not very severe and sometime suspected and some of these impacts are not insignificant. If someone is bidding on doing some work in out very cost-driven society you will seldom or never win that job if you add a contingency for every item of work that you suspect will carry some level of risk. This is not to say that high risk items should be ignored.

The above is why we create what is called a risk register that forces you to brainstorm all the possible risk events that you can foresee and rate them based on various factors and estimate/calculate the level of risk, often stated as sensitivity. It is very important to come up with ways to deal with (or work around) highly sensitive activities that are on your calculate driving critical path or near critical paths, especially those that are near term.

The most popular and used method to find this information is Monte Carlo Analysis. Risk analysis software that uses this methodology will rerun your project many times using a random number generator to select activity durations within the parameters you set.
